Guitar - Vocals
Although I played guitar in high-school and early 20s, I suffered a hand injury when I was 30 and stopped playing altogether in 2003.
I met my wife Michelle in 2018. She remembered me playing guitar way back when and insisted on me trying again. For Christmas that year she told me to pick a guitar. I always wanted a Kramer because that's what Eddie Van Halen played. The one I wanted was out of stock, so I picked a Wolfgang and on Christmas day, I opened two guitars, but was told to pick one and we'd send the other back.
I played both for 2 weeks and decided on the Kramer. Michelle asked that if we sent the Wolfgang back, would I just buy it again later? She then told me to just keep them. I use the Kramer in shows today.
I began playing with the worship team at my church. We played a lot of secular music and I was able to perform Shine (Collective Soul) and My Sacrifice (Creed) and we played Hysteria (Def Leppard) at the end of our wedding. Then the pandemic hit.
While everything was shut down for Covid, I answered an ad for a guitar player for Decades. We practiced for over a year without a full time singer, and finally our drummer found Janessa. Decades finally has all the pieces together and we played consistently for over a year.
Janessa started Rebel Kitty in 2024, and later that year the need for a guitar player opened up. I filled in for the first time in June of 2024, was asked shortly after to join, and a year later we are expanding musical styles and expressions.
My favorite band is Van Halen (all three of my sons are named after them), and am heavily influenced by 80s bands like Def Leppard and Journey, and 90s bands such as Foo Fighters and Pearl Jam. I love the songs in RK's catalog and enjoy being challenged by different musical frontiers.
